I will have a presentation on this Thursday and here is the outline.
The reading I will present is “A camera with a view” by Krissi M. limroglou. It is about a girl calls Jennifer, who set up a website, JenniCAM and offered public a constant window to know her private live. I will summarize the content to you as follows:
1) Hybridity
- JenniCAM emerges as a particular type of cyborg subject through the integration of body and technology.
2) Perversity
- Jenni broke the traditional visual boundaries of the public and private as a female.
3) Psychoanalytic readings of JenniCAM
- Feminist film theory demonstrates the cyborg qualities within JenniCAm.
- A pre-oedipal reading of the function of the camera.
- Pleasure for both male and female viewers.

From the comment of our lecturer, Wesley, most of the points of the reading “The camera of view” has presented in my presentation. But, there are still some points that were not presented clear enough, especially for the third part “Psychoanalytic readings of JenniCAM”. I did not explain well how the feminist film theory demonstrates JenieCam. Luckily, Wesley helped me to tell more details about this to classmates. Also, I didn’t manage well the time of my presentation. I hope I can do better next time.
ReplyDeleteI never study about “Cyborg” this topic before. It is quite hard for me to understand all the ideas and words in this reading. But, I got a general idea about this topic after the discussion with my group mates. They make me easier to understand. And I found that this is a topic that includes many issues and worth us to study and discuss about.
I think your presentation was impressive for me because at that moment I had no idea on "cyborg" and the "JenniCAM".
ReplyDeleteThe purpose of Jenni was presented so well that made me more understand the relation between "JenniCAM" and "cyborg" and how Jenni used her “experiment” to create the ironic cyborg. However, as you said, I was not really understood the demonstration of “JenniCAM” by feminist film theory. As I had studied issues about gender, I was quite curious how you would present the feminist theory in this case.
Overall, I could still learn something from your presentation. To be honest, I never thought the binary classification you said could be redefined and demonstrated in Jenni’s way.
Thx Cheyenne.
