“Consumption and Digital Commodities in the Everyday” by Mark Poster
“Consumption has been reconfigured as significant in its own right, as a complex, articulated area related directly to culture.” (Poster 409)
In this article, Poster argues that consumers are no longer passive individuals who receive information submissively. With the development of digital media, consumers can participate in their consumption actively, and they can even become the producer or creator of the cultural object.

First of all, I need to apologize that I spoke so quickly during the presentation, because it’s really difficult to summarize the informative article into a three minutes presentation. When I read this article for the first time, I found it quite difficult to understand since it mentions lots of theories that I am not familiar with. Therefore, I tried to simplify the theories in my presentation, so that the audience could easily understand.
ReplyDeleteI think I did my presentation quite well since our tutor, Wesley, said that I have included most of the important points in my presentation. Yet, Wesley did mention that the consumer theory in modern era and post-modern era are not mutually exclusive. These theories are not processes, and are able to coexist. This idea should be considered when we dealing with the consumer theory.
Thank you for your participation, though there was only a few of you attending the tutorial. :P
Yea Lily your talking speed at the presentation was as fast as you are doing a rap lol. I really have to give you 100% attention, if not I will lost track on what you were talking about. *winks*
ReplyDeleteI’ve also read through the passage you presented, which makes me even surer that you did a really great presentation. You tired very hard to include everything in your presentation (that’s why you have to talk that fast, huh? :P) but at the same time making it clear and easy to understand.
Yet I still think you can do one thing to make your presentation even more perfect. While taking a look at your PowerPoint slides, I find it was full of words. It would be better if you further shorten the sentences to more point forms. In this way, it would be easier to understand the slides without reading the whole sentence.
All in all, you did a great job! :D
